Vans X Metallica 20th Anniversary Half Cab
Had the pleasure of meeting Metallica at their rehearsal space, chatting about their favorite instruments and ideating about the possibilities... Steve Caballero suggested to make the shoe really bright - like the "...And Justice For All" album cover.
James and Lars said that it should be black - and that their fastest, most aggressive album should represent Skateboarding... Hence it was "Kill 'em All' used for design and inspiration.
The band also asked to see "Metallica-ized" Half Cab labels.
They liked it a lot.
2001-2005 Footwear Designs
Some early Y2K designs like the Bearcat, Atwood, Widow, Whip and Whip 2 and La Cripta Dos were particularly successful - some styles selling over 1 million pairs per year - and some remain in production in 2025.
